One of the main purposes of this trip was to bring a tiny feline rescue named Jasmine home with us. Ouabache Valley Felines & Friends (pronounced “wabash”) is where we adopted our Stanley two years ago. Since then we have tried to give some support to them in our own small way as we could. We mentioned that if they ever found a little female polydactyl kitten we would come up and adopt her. This in memory of our much loved female polydactyl KC who we had adopted in Massachusetts but had only a few short years with us before she lost her battle with breast cancer.

We had a nice visit with owner Tammy and her husband, dropped off some supplies, saw some of the facilities and the work they do (all volunteers), collected our little Jasmine and were back on the road again with our little gray bundle of “go”….

We stopped here once before and it is suitable for one or two nights but expect very large and very loud on the weekends and nearly everyone drives a golf cart including the kids! The overnight sites are pull-throughs with water and electric with some shade and a nice view of the soybean fields. Very country. This weekend the Park is full with a “Block Party Pot Luck” planned for the Seasonals.

They do have full hook-ups farther back in the Park if you would rather have one. We opt usually to be away from the roar of the crowded.

There is a nice restaurant nearby that you pass by coming off the I-70 Exit called the Shakerag Bar and Grill that if it was anymore homey and folksy you’d swear you were in Mayberry! All very friendly and you can tell it’s a gathering place for the locals in this farming community of 650. The food is good and prices reasonable. Niki loved the “Prairie Fries” and breaded tenderloin (like they made it back home in Indiana – almost!) and Jack liked his hamburger and potato salad. We both liked the “Brownie Bowl” dessert we shared.

Next stop (on our new route home) is on the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau, MO
